Another nuclear power plant to be set up in Rooppur
Bangladesh and Russia have taken a policy decision to build a second nuclear power plant at Rooppur. A source present confirmed that the decision was taken after a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Director General (DG) of Russia's state nuclear agency ROSATOM, Alexei Likhachev, this morning.
It is also known that details will be given in this regard later through a press conference.
According to the sources, Bangladesh expressed interested in setting up another nuclear power plant in Rooppur to the Director General of ROSATOM, who is on a special visit in Bangladesh. Bangladesh sought cooperation from Russia and ROSATOM in this regard.
On behalf of Rosatom and Russia, it is stated that they are also interested in helping Bangladesh in this regard. They have already trained manpower through the first project. The second project can also be done with them.
Apart from that, it was informed by Rosatom that the cost of the second project will also be lower.
